The paper analyses the macroeconomic performance of Uzbekistan over 1991-2002, the main trends and causes of poverty and inequality over 1991-2002 and attempts to link these trends to changes in economic and social policies. The paper also discusses changes that took place in sectors that substantially influence the evolution of poverty.
