Caspian oil and gas: the facts at the end of the year 2000
This paper examines the political and economic implications on the Caspian region following the recent confirmation of the volume of supplies of crude oil found there. Though estimated at twice as large as the amount of oil reserves beneath the North Sea, in terms of the world’s energy balance the amounts discovered in the Caspian region are not of great significance, claims the author of this paper.
