For Jan-Mar 2008 country’s GDP reached AZN 8.209 bn ($9.773 bn on average rate of USD 1 = AZN 0.84) that is by 13.8% higher against the 2007 same term’s GDP figure of AZN 5.26 bn, the State Statistics Committee informed.

ADB informed that this year GDP per capital in the region of operations to total 6.8% and 7% in 2009 versus 7.7% in 2007. Growth in Central Asia (including Azerbaijan) in 2008 is expected at the level of 7.6%, 8.3% in 2009. The number was 10.5% in 2007.

ADB forecasts inflation in Azerbaijan up to 13% in 2008 and 12% in 2009

The Bank informed Fineko/abc.az that this year inflation in ADB operating region is expected at the level of 5.1% and in 2009 - 4.6% versus 4.3% in 2007. In Central Asia (including Azerbaijan) inflation totals 14.4%, 10.2% in 2009 versus 11.6% in 2007.

The latest edition of „Polish Economic Outlook” was presented on February 6. 2008 by Dr. Maciej Krzak at the CASE headquarters. According to the publication, Polish business cycle peaked in the first half of 2007: Since then, year on year economic growth started slowing down and this trend should continue at least until Q 1st of 2008. Real GDP grew preliminary by 6.5% in 2007, i.e. above its potential rate of growth, estimated within the range of 5% to 5.5% a year.

CASE held a seminar where Yegor Gaidar was invited as a guest speaker on January 25, 2008. Dr. Gaidar is a Director of the Institute for the Economy in Transition in Moscow. In the past he held positions of Russia's former Acting Prime Minister and former Minister of Finance and Economy under President Boris Yeltsin. He is related to CASE as a member of the CASE Advisory Council. During the seminar he briefed the participants on the current state of the Russian economy.

Yegor Gaidar, the Director of the institute presented main findings on “Conditions of the global economy and perspectives of economic policy in Russia”.
