On May 14, 2008 ICEG European Center held an annual conference on “Growth Patterns and Capital Formation in the Eastern EU Member States” in Brussels. The conference focused on special features and roots of growth from capital investments and formation in the EU Eastern member states in comparison with the rest of the EU countries. The presentations analysed the dynamics and composition of FDI inflows and outflows, impacts of FDI inflows, the relocation of FDI, industrial structure of investments, credit growth and investment booms.

Uzbekistan should grow by around 7–8% in 2008, major ADB report says

ADB's flagship annual publication, Asian Development Outlook 2008 (ADO) released today, forecasts developing Asian economies to expand at 7.6% in 2008 and 7.8% in 2009. The region posted its highest growth in almost two decades in 2007 – averaging 8.7%.

IET—Seminar on economic situation in Ukraine

IET held a seminar entitled "Why Ukraine shows such successful economic results? " on January 31, 2008. The leading economist of the World Bank Martin Rajzner lectured on the subject. He pointed out three groups of growth factors in the Ukrainian economy: 1) a favorable conjuncture of the world market of metals, 2) presence of significant unused capacities, 3) and the process of convergence of Ukraine with the EU countries on labour productivity levels and the average salary (similarly to other economies of the Eastern Europe).

Belarus - Vice premier expresses certainty that key economic targets will be met this year

CER hosted a round table entitled “Uzbekistan on the way to economic knowledge: ensuring a stable growth in 21st century” on December 6, 2007. The purpose of the event was to present and discuss a new policy brief drafted by Dr. Larry Wong, an international consultant from the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Malaysia). The paper has the same title as the event : “Uzbekistan on the way to economic knowledge: ensuring a stable growth in 21st century”.

CASE - a seminar by Dr. Richard Pomfret

Professor Richard Pomfret was invited to the CASE Policy Research Seminar, which took place on December 4, 2007. He presented his recent paper entitled “Using Energy Resources to Diversify the Economy: Agricultural Price Distortions in Kazakhstan”. He estimated producer support equivalents for the main agricultural products in Kazakhstan since 1990 and analyzed the consequences of shifts in farm support policy. Dr. Richard Pomfret is a Professor of Economics at the University of Adelaide, Australia and a Visiting Professor at Johns Hopkins University’s Bologna Center in Italy.
