April 29, 2008 - May 31, 2008On April 29, 2008, Angel Gurría, the OECD Secretary- General was invited to lecture on the topic "Globalization and Rising Competition: Challenges for the Czech Economy" . The event was hosted by IES and organized in cooperation with IES UK-FSV with Czech Economic Association. Around 150 guests - students, professors, journalists, government and non-government institution representatives participated in the event.

May 14, 2008 - May 31, 2008On May 14, 2008 ICEG European Center held an annual conference on “Growth Patterns and Capital Formation in the Eastern EU Member States” in Brussels. The conference focused on special features and roots of growth from capital investments and formation in the EU Eastern member states in comparison with the rest of the EU countries. The presentations analysed the dynamics and composition of FDI inflows and outflows, impacts of FDI inflows, the relocation of FDI, industrial structure of investments, credit growth and investment booms.

April 29, 2008 - May 31, 2008At the second stage of the competition the young researchers from the EPIN member institutes had to develop and submit extended research proposals with their assigned mentors soon after the EPIN Training Workshop, held in April 28-29, 2008. The extended research proposal is the document based on which a final funding decision was made. We cordially congratulate the following winners of the Small Grants Scheme. We wish them a productive research process and excellent results in coming September.

April 15, 2008 - April 30, 2008The EPIN Training Workshop was help on 28-29 April 2008 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. UNDP Uzbekistan Country office and Center for Economic research hosted the event. The workshop trained selected candidates (EPIN young researchers) on proposal writing and dissemination techniques, basic project management, types of policy documentation and many other interesting topics that contributed to the capacity building of the young researchers.

April 1, 2008 - April 30, 2008CASE-Kyrgyzstan has published the results of the World Governance Assessment for the Kyrgyz Republic. According to the report the Kyrgyz domestic stakeholders appeared to be critical on current situation and the dynamics of change in governance in the country assigning to the current governance quality a score of 2.32 on the scale from 1 (very low quality) to 5 (excellent quality).

April 7, 2008 - April 8, 2008ADB informed that this year GDP per capital in the region of operations to total 6.8% and 7% in 2009 versus 7.7% in 2007. Growth in Central Asia (including Azerbaijan) in 2008 is expected at the level of 7.6%, 8.3% in 2009. The number was 10.5% in 2007.

April 7, 2008 - April 8, 2008The Bank informed Fineko/abc.az that this year inflation in ADB operating region is expected at the level of 5.1% and in 2009 - 4.6% versus 4.3% in 2007. In Central Asia (including Azerbaijan) inflation totals 14.4%, 10.2% in 2009 versus 11.6% in 2007.
