Third research works (draft versions) by EPIN 2008 Small Grants Scheme fellows have been published on the portal.

They are "The Review of Microfinance Approaches to Reduce Poverty and Unemployment" and "”The Review of Microfinance Development in Central Asia”. Both works were written by Gulnoz Bikbaeva (Senior Research Officer) and Malohat Gaibnazarova (Leading Research Officer) at the Center for Economic Research, Uzbekistan.

The first paper paper reviews scientific literature that covers the issues of unemployment, poverty, microfinance, as well as the views of various authors on its essence, goals, forms and methods. The paper thoroughly discusses the ways through which the microfinance may reduce poverty and unemployment. A number of examples of microfinance programs in various countries and their effects are discussed.

The second paper analyzes the microfinance policies and institutions in a number of countries in Central Asia. The emphasis is given to the role and importance of microfinance as an effective measure in poverty alleviation. It presents a detailed analysis of regional microfinance programmes and their role in area based development, as well as the demand for the microfinance services in Uzbekistan.

Gulnoz’s and Malohat’s papers were mentored by Karel Janda, Ing. Karel Janda M.A., Dr., Ph. D., Transgas-RWE Chair, Institute of Economic Studies in Czech Republic.
